- Recounts Hemingway and Stein s break through letters, essays, and manuscript fragments. Examines each author s view of the relationship revealed in Hemingway s A Moveable Feast and The Autobiography of Alice B. Hemingway and Stein s Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas (1933). Curnutt discusses Hemingway s claim that he ended the relationship to minimize Stein s influence but concludes that Hemingway continued to be haunted by Stein as evidenced by his later references to her in his works.
