Annotation: Traces Hemingway s fascination with espionage, beginning with his exposure to spying and guerilla warfare as a reporter during the Spanish civil war and recruitment by the Soviet intelligence agency, NKVD. Covers Hemingway s Cuban covert activities, including his formation of the intelligence gathering network known as the Crook Factory and later hunt for Nazi submarines off the Cuban coast in his fishing boat, the Pilar. White, however, devotes most of his attention to Hemingway s WW II exploits in France, including his participation in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), intelligence gathering activities in Rambouillet, and involvement in the liberation of Paris. Closes with reasons behind the disbandment of the OSS following the end of the war.
