Abstract
This chapter will explore the Relational Partnership Development Model (RPDM) for creating university-community partners. This model describes how to develop community partnerships that avoid the charity model of doing work on communities and instead build collaborative work with communities. Through the development of trust, honesty, and risk taking, and by centering the knowledge of marginalized communities, collaborations emerge that are mutually beneficial for the community partners, students, and faculty. Faculty nurture these kinds of partnerships by embracing humility, flexibility, and critical self-reflexivity.
