- Annotation
- Comparison study. De Biasio opens by contextualizing Hemingway s well-known criticism of Cather s outsider position as a woman writing about war before examining each novel s use of tourist rhetoric and themes in commemorating World War I. In juxtaposing Claude Wheeler of Cather s 1922 narrative with Frederic Henry, De Biasio concludes that though both are tourists, Henry s insider position as an ambulance driver in the Italian army and ultimate rejection of the war mark his experiences as uniquely authentic.
