Abstract
Caregivers of a child with a disability living in Zambia were able to give voice to their lived experiences and desire for change around stigma and discrimination utilizing photovoice research methodology. In this case study, we provide an in-depth examination of the photovoice method and how participatory action research empowered persons living in a marginalized community to express issues they felt needed to be addressed and changed. This case study explores the entire photovoice process including building a community partnership, co-construction of the data, careful adherence to the methodological process, and the importance of dissemination via a community exhibition. The importance of participant dialogue, storytelling, and group consensus of the final themes will be discussed, along with successes, challenges, and lessons learned.
